Kunjaram Kurathi Amma
The parable of Kurathi theyyam imparts, once the daughter of Bhagavan
Shivan prayed the Soorya Bhagavan for a boon. He emerged before her and
asked her to play Chooth with him. She agreed it. Bhagavathi trashed him
several times. He became riled and cursed her that she will born in the
earth as Kurathi
She reached the earth as a Kurathi. She felt thirsty. She rummaged-around for a home where she could find something to imbibe. On the way, a home that belonged to a man called Mannan caught her attention. She rambled towards the home and implored for milk and water three times. Though Mannan possesses seven shed of cows and seven big pots full of milk, he declined to offer even a single droplet to her. In fact he did not know that it was BHAGAVATHI.
Her eye became red in wrath. Corollary began to terrify mannan, his cows turned into stones. He consulted an Astrologer. The astrologer found the reason and told him, "it was the BHAGAVATHI who requested you the milk If you don't satisfy her, she will obliterate your entire family"
Hearing this Mannan became more panicky. He prayed to the BHAGAVATHI "oh My bhagavathi, I beseech your pardon, you asked me one KINDI milk, but i will give you twelve KINDI full of milk. please don't wipe out me and my family". He as per his promise, submitted the offerings to the Bhagavathi, by this, she became pleasant and altered the stones back to Cows
